Ukrainian Community Mourns Loss of Long-Time Activist
Catherine Woloschuk passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the age of 94.
A life-long educator and an exceptional classroom teacher in Yorkton and area, Catherine brought Ukrainian after-school programs to the various communities in which she taught and was instrumental in providing a multicultural aspect to musicals and concerts for students. In retirement, she taught English to many Ukrainian newcomers. As an active member of UCC Yorkton, which she helped to establish, Catherine was greatly involved in organizing local events and promoting Ukrainian dance ensembles, visiting choirs, and other cultural groups. She was a long-time supporter of her church and served the community in executive positions for various local and provincial organizations. With her dedication to education, culture and heritage, she was instrumental in establishing a scholarship program for graduating high school students in Yorkton, and she continually researched Ukrainian literature, stories and political issues for presentation. Catherine was a recipient of UCC Saskatchewan's Community Recognition Award for Cultural Preservation & Development in 2009.
