January 28, 2009
-- The Saskatoon branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress
(UCC-SB) held ESL registration sessions on two separate occasions.
Tuesday, January 13 was the registration and assessment date
for night classes and Saturday, January 17 for Saturday morning
class. More |
Place/Місце: Lawson Heights School, 430 Redberry Road, Saskatoon Time/Час: 7–9 PM (19:00-21:00). New immigrants interested in taking English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are invited to come out and register. It is very important to attend registration/assessment night as enrollment numbers will determine how many classes UCC-SB will be able to offer. Students will not be allowed to attend classes prior to assessment. Also, since class size is limited to 20 students, late registrants will need to go a waiting list. For more information about ESL classes, please call 244-8227 and ask for Irene Pylypec or Valentyna Mahina. |

UCC-SB offers Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced English as a Second Language (ESL) classes Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm at Lawson Heights School. Students are also taking advantage of free childminding services while they attend class. There are currently 18 children signed up, making for a very active and challenging environment in the Childminding room. For students that are unable to attend night classes because they are working night shifts, there is a Saturday morning Beginner class at Mohyla Institute. This is a 3-hour class that runs from 10am to 1 pm. Childminding is not available for the Saturday class. Also at Mohyla Institute, Communication Café is facilitated on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm. Communication Café is an opportunity for Ukrainians to practise their English speaking skills while Canadians of Ukrainian descent can practise speaking Ukrainian.
Beginner and Intermediate night classes are full, but there are still openings in the Upper Intermediate/Advanced class on Tuesday/Thursday nights, Saturday's Beginner class and Wednesday's Conversation Café. If you would like to register for any of these classes, please contact Irene Pylypec, ESL Program Coordinator, at 244-8227.
