Ukrainian Self Reliance League Convention 2009 Planning Launched
July 8, 2008 -- August 2009 may appear a long way off but not for those planning
a major event such as the 2009 USRL/CYC Convention. A group composed
of longtime supporters of USRL/CYC and members of its component
organizations met recently in Regina to form the 2009 Convention
Planning Committee. Chairing the Committee is Orest Warnyca with
Steve Senyk filling in as Vice Chair. Others on the Committee include
Natalie Ostryzniuk as Secretary, Dr. Ed Klopoushak as Treasurer.
Chairing the various subcommittees include Michael Zaleschuk in
charge of Food Services, Natalie Ostryzniuk of Registration, Wayne
Hydeman of Hospitality and Transportation, Gwen Warnyca of Decoration,
and Tony Harras in charge of Publicity. There are still a number
of subcommittee chairs to be filled.
The Convention dates have been set at Thursday to Sunday, August
6 to 9, 2009 in Regina. A hotel has been tentatively reserved; however,
some details still need to be finalized before a contract can be
signed and details made public. The hotel is in a central location
and therefore there would be easy access to shopping and other amenities.
The facility itself should be great for the convention sessions
and for recreation and relaxation.
In due course a package of information will be mailed out to prospective
convention delegates; however it is not too early to make sure that
your mailing addresses are updated and your membership starts thinking
about what they would like to see achieved at the convention.
As a convention venue, Regina is a great choice because in the
Queen City there is a wide range of entertainment, shopping and
other amenities, lots of places to visit and best of all, all of
these are easily accessible by car. For the golfers the fees are
certainly more affordable than in Canada’s other major cities. And
finally, Regina has a vibrant Ukrainian Orthodox community.
Even though August 2009 is almost a year away, mark your calendars
and plan to attend and make this convention truly successful for
our current and future membership. |
