2008 marks 7th Annual Adult Ukrainian Language Immersion Camp

May 21, 2008 -- The AULIC 2006 and 2007 extended programs were such huge successes that they are being offered again in 2008. The camp dates for this summer are August 7 to 10 for the four-day weekend and August 7 to 15 for the extended program, both of which are being held at Trident Camp, Crystal Lake, Saskatchewan.

AULIC’s success is primarily a result of the quality of language instruction. Other important aspects of the program are the time allocated for recreational and cultural activities such as singing Ukrainian songs, watching Ukrainian videos, wood-carving and pysanky writing. Instructors selected for the camp are as skilled in teaching the language as they are in sharing Ukraine’s heritage and culture. Instructors for 2008 are:

Beginner Level (four-day weekend) - Anita Drebot
Originally from Sudbury, Anita has taught Ukrainian for 40 years. She has a BA in Slavic Studies from the University of Regina (U of R) and a number of Master’s classes from the University of Saskatchewan (U of S). She taught Ukrainian in the Public School system, at the U of R for more than 10 years and briefly at the U of S. She also hosted Ukrainian radio and TV programs. This will be Anita’s sixth year with the AULIC program.

Intermediate Level (four-day weekend) - Oksana Sholdra
Oksana is originally from Lviv, Ukraine, where she obtained degrees in Mathematical Engineering and Choreography. Since her move to Regina, Oksana has continued her education through programs at SIAST, Regina Open Door Society and at the University of Regina, where she received accreditation as a Second Language Instructor. She is presently employed by BMO. She has taught Ukrainian at the Regina pre-school (Sadochok) as well as all levels of Ukrainian dance.

Advanced Level (four-day weekend and nine-day extension) - Dr. Olena Akulova
Dr. Akulova graduated from Kyiv Shevchenko University with a degree in Linguistics. She obtained a Ph. D. in Psycholinguistics and a Teacher Diploma in English. Before immigrating to Canada in 2004, she was a university Professor. Dr. Akulova currently teaches Psychology for Sask Learning and is a member of the Saskatchewan Teachers of Ukrainian.

The registration fee for the four-day weekend is $185 per participant if received prior to July 7 and $200 thereafter. The fee for the nine-day extension program is $310 if received by July 7 and $325 thereafter. Room, board and all printed materials are included in your registration fee.
