Employment opportunity at Ukrainian Museum of Canada

January 23, 2006 -- The Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Saskatoon with branches in Vancouver. Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto, is one of Canada’s outstanding non-profit cultural and educational institutions that serve the Ukrainian Canadian community and the greater global community locally, nationally and internationally. The Museum is seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Visitor Receptionist and Gift Shop Attendant

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Greet and welcome visitors and the general public provide, an introduction to the Museum, direct them to the appropriate contacts or services and provide basic information.
  2. Public relations with local Museum visitors, tourists, schools, or tour groups and Museum gift shop customers,
  3. Answer, screen and forward telephone calls, take messages and provide basic information as required. Answer e-mail inquiries
  4. Perform as required or assigned, clerical secretarial and basic bookkeeping duties of a general nature according to established procedures. Maintain attendance records.
  5. Research, select, order and maintain an inventory of merchandise. Procure, display effectively and maintain merchandise. Establish and maintain supplier and consignor list.
  6. Price, package and display gift shop merchandise. Prepare sales contracts. Maintain sales records for inventory control. Prepare reports regarding attendance records, sales volumes, and merchandising.
  7. Promote gift shop merchandise using current promotional methods such as print, audio, visual and electronic media.
  8. Organize folk art workshops, arrange programs and instructors, order supplies and take bookings. Take bookings for tour groups and arrange for tour guide.

Qualifications

  1. Superior interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Ability to handle several tasks concurrently.
  3. Retail sales experience including: cash register and computer operation, handling sales transactions; sales ability and product knowledge.
  4. Basic record keeping and very strong organizational skills.
  5. Self starter and motivated.
  6. Basic knowledge of Ukrainian culture and language an asset.
  7. Ability to work a 37.5 hour week, including occasional weekend and evenings.
