Konowal plaque to be unveiled at Lens, France

5, 2005 -- On Monday, 22 August 2005, at 11 am,
a trilingual plaque honouring the First World War veteran, Cpl Filip
Konowal, will be unveiled at Lens, France, near the location of
the Battle of Hill 70, where Konowal's valour earned him the highest
military distinction awarded by the British Empire, the Victoria
Cross.
The event is being organized by Branch #360 of The Royal Canadian
Legion, in association with the City of Lens, the Ukrainian Canadian
Civil Liberties Association, the Royal Westminster Regiment Association
and the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain. The public is
invited to attend.
