YAN: Youth Advisory Committee meeting discusses project strategies

YAN Advisory Committee members on the second day of their meeting
The second Youth Action Now (YAN) Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) meeting took place June 5 and 6, 2004 in Regina.

The first day of the meeting was marked by much discussion and debate about several aspects of the project. The YAC members reviewed the work done at the first YAC meeting in March and heard an overview of the project and the two partner organizations (Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan and UCC-SPC). Eugene Krenosky, President of the Board of Directors of UCC-SPC was present for part of the meeting.

During the evening of June 5th, YAC members and YAN staff toured Mosaic together. YAC members particularly enjoyed the dancing at the First Nations and Kiev Ukrainian pavilions, the food at the Greek pavilion and the fire breathing and dancing at the Caribbean pavilion. Youth Action Now would like to thank the Regina Multicultural Council for donating passes to Mosaic for the YAC members and YAN staff.

On day two, the YAC members engaged in lively discussions about marketing and the Gathering. Some of the ideas for advertising ranged from monster -truck-style announcements to getting YAN featured on TV shows filmed in Saskatchewan. The YAC also talked about featuring Saskatchewan-based cultural headliners at the Gathering.

The YAN staff would like to extend their appreciation to the Youth Advisory Committee members for all of their ideas, input, expertise and energy so far with Youth Action Now.

Watch for the youthactionnow.ca website, which is planned to be up and running for July 1st.
